Automated speed detection of moving vehicles from remote sensing images
نویسندگان
چکیده
A new method is developed to detect the speed of moving vehicles from two consecutive digital aerial images and a pair of QuickBird (QB) panchromatic and multi-spectral images. Since two consecutive digital aerial images taken by UCD have an 80% overlap, the speed of moving vehicles in the overlap can be detected by the movement between the two images and the time lag (about 3 sec). Firstly, vehicles are extracted by an object-based method from each image. Then the vehicle matching is carried out to find the same vehicles from the two consecutive images and calculate their speeds. QB images also can be used to detect the speed of moving vehicles, using the time lag (about 0.2 sec) between the panchromatic and multi-spectral images. Since the resolution of QB’s multi-spectral images is about 2.4 m/pixel, the area correlation method is introduced to detect the exact location of vehicle. The results can be extensively used to access road traffic. Moving Vehicle Information Extraction from Single-Pass WorldView-2 Imagery Based on ERGAS-SNS Analysis
Due to the fact that WorldView-2 (WV2) has a small time lag while acquiring images from panchromatic (PAN) and two multispectral (MS1 and MS2) sensors, a moving vehicle is located at different positions in three image bands. Consequently, such displacement can be utilized to identify moving vehicles, and vehicle information, such as speed and direction can be estimated. In this paper, we focus ...
متن کاملEstimating Speed and Direction of Small Dynamic Targets through Optical Satellite Imaging
Moving Target Indicators (MTI) are systems used to distinguish movement from stationary scenes and sometimes to derive the spatial attributes of these objects. These systems are currently used in many sectors such as traffic studies, border surveillance, and military applications. The proposed MTI reveals vehicles and their velocities using commercial imagery from a passive optical satellite-mo...

Due to the increase of changes in the land uses mainly resulting from humaninterferences, monitoring the changes and evaluating their trend and environmental effectsfor future planning and management are essential. In the present study, an attempt is madeto observe the changes which had occurred in Ardestan area during a period of 30 yearsusing some satellite images. Different kinds of data for...
متن کاملTraffic Classification and Speed Estimation in Time Series of Airborne Optical Remote Sensing Images
In this paper we propose a new two level traffic parameter estimation approach based on traffic classification into three classes: free flow, congested and stopped traffic in image time series of airborne optical remote sensing data. The proposed method is based on the combination of various techniques: change detection in two images, image processing such as binarization and filtering and inco...
متن کاملLow Cost UAV-based Remote Sensing for Autonomous Wildlife Monitoring
In recent years, developments in unmanned aerial vehicles, lightweight on-board computers, and low-cost thermal imaging sensors offer a new opportunity for wildlife monitoring. In contrast with traditional methods now surveying endangered species to obtain population and location has become more cost-effective and least time-consuming. In this paper, a low-cost UAV-based remote sensing platform...
